London, Ontario, police have charged a man after a dog was stabbed multiple times overnight.

Police say they responded to a 911 call just after 3 a.m. Tuesday for an injured dog at a home in the city’s north end.

The dog’s owner reported that a person he knew stabbed the pet several times before fleeing on foot.

The injured dog was taken for emergency veterinary treatment. Police say the dog suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Two hours later, at 5:15 a.m., the suspect appeared at the home again, whereupon police returned and arrested him without incident.

Police say a 31-year-old man has been charged with injuring an animal. The name of the accused was not made public as the police said they could identify the complainant.

The accused is to be produced in a London court on Tuesday.
