London Knights continue winning ways on the road against Oshawa Generals – London | globalnews.ca

The London Knights made it four wins in a row by beating the Oshawa Generals 4-2 on Sunday night in Oshawa, Ontario.

Brett Brochu made 34 stops for London and Ben Bujold scored the game-winner in the second period during a play you don’t see every day.

It was actually started by the Generals on the London Blue Line. Oshawa defenseman Leighton Moore was carrying the puck across the blue line when he collided with teammate Ben Danford and Brody Crane swooped in, grabbed the puck and ran down the ice with Ben Bujold on a breakaway. Crane threw a pass to Bujold and the Kanata, Ontario, native converted for his second goal of the season.

Sean McGurn and Denver Barkey scored the first period goals for London. McGurn now has at least one point in 12 of his last 13 games. Barkey now has points in eight straight games.

Easton Cowan finished the scoring with an empty-netter in the final ten seconds of the game after the Generals hit the outside of the net on a chance in tight end and the Knights’ Logan Mailloux threw a puck the length of the ice and fired it off. . Post on the empty Oshawa Net.

Brochu came up with big stops on four separate occasions in the final 20 minutes.

Former London junior Knight Dylan Rubrock scored on the power play for the Generals in the first period. Rubrock also set up Cameron Butler for Oshawa’s second goal in the second period.

The Knights’ road record now stands at a league best 9–2.

Marner chasing Sittler

When Mitch Marner opened the scoring 40 seconds into a 4–1 final win by the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 26, the former Knight extended his point streak to 16 games. The all-time Maple Leafs record stands at 18 games and is shared by Eddie Olzik and another former Knight in Darryl Sittler.

Marner is currently tied with Dave Andrychuk, John Anderson and Babe Dye for having points in 16 consecutive games in the 1921–22 season, 101 years earlier. Toronto is 14-01 when Marner, Auston Matthews and William Nylander score in the same game, according to Sportsnet Stats.

London Junior Knights finish top-3 in maiden OHL Cup rankings

The London Junior Knights U16 team took third place in the first OHL Cup rankings of the year. Only the York-Simco Express (#2) and the Toronto Marlboros (#1) ranked higher.

The Junior Knights competed in the Silver Stick Tournament this past weekend in Whitby, Ont., and went undefeated, losing only to the Toronto Junior Canadiens in the quarterfinals.

Dylan Roobroeck and Ethan Weir are both considered top picks for the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, but many junior knights are expected to hear their names on Draft Day. The Junior Knights are coached by Danny Civet who captained the Team of the Century in 2004–05.

London continue with ten games in 18 days at home to Guelph Storm on Tuesday, 29 November where they will unveil a new jersey. The Knights have been giving fans hints on social media about what will be a big reveal for anyone in attendance.

The jersey will eventually become part of the Knights’ uniform collection and will be worn several times this year.

The game will mark the first meeting between London and Guelph this year. The Storm have won four in a row since starting the year 4–12–1–2.

Guelph has allowed more goals in 2022-23 than any other team. They were boosted by the addition of Max Nemstnikov, whom they acquired on November 17 in a trade with the Sarnia Sting. Namestnikov had nine points in four games with Guelph. He is the younger brother of former knight Vladislav Namestnikov.
