London Knights beat Owen Sound 9-1 – London | globalnews.ca

George Diako had a goal and three assists as the London Knights blew out the Owen Sound Attack 9-1 on Friday night at Budweiser Garden.

Diaco was one of nine Knights players to have multi-point games.

Brodie Crane had two goals, Logan Mailloux had three assists and Ryan Winterton had a goal and two assists for the second consecutive game.

Winterton has nine points in seven games as a Knight. He scored the first goal of the game for London as he fired a shot over the shoulder of Attack goaltender Nick Chenard at the 2:06 mark of the first period.

Denver Barkey and Brodie Crane then showed the speed of both players with goals just 44 seconds apart to put London ahead 3–1 less than 13 minutes into the game. Barkey finished the game with a goal and an assist.

The Knights clicked on the power play for the third time in four periods as Mailloux found Ryan Humphrey on the left side of the Owen Sound net and blasted the puck in from there to give London a 4–1 lead with 20 minutes to go.

All of these goals came after Landon Huskie started the scoring just 14 seconds into the game on a backhand that the Sarnia, Ontario, native let go as he cut into the high slot.

Corbin Votery replaced Chenard in attack goal to start the second period but the Knights kept rolling. Sean McGurn connected with Diako for London’s 20th goal of the season to give London a 5–1 lead.

McGurn then scored his 18th goal of the year with a shot that went right down the ice and past Votrie to make it 6–1.

Ruslan Gazizov picked out a top corner in the final 20 minutes for his 14th goal of the season and then Brodie Crane extended the Knights’ lead to seven goals by Votri for Crane’s second goal of the game and 10th of the season. ,

A collision that obliterated two attacking defenders in the final minute opened up a lane for Landon Sim and Ruslan Gazizov to find the Owen Sound net and they played a give-and-go for the final goal of the evening as Sim blazed over and Gazizov scored. Second point game.

Isaiah George and Oliver Bonk each picked up a pair of assists.

London, Ont., native Ethan McKinnon returned to the lineup after missing 16 games with an upper-body injury and was plus-4.

The Knights outshot the attack 40–29.

London was 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Knights and Kitchener will seek a rematch of Tuesday’s 7-3 London win when they face off at Budweiser Gardens on Sunday at 2pm

The Knights are 2-0 against Rangers so far this season. London has outscored Kitchener 11-3 in those two games.

Kitchener is still fighting for a spot in the playoffs and will be playing its third game in less than 48 hours.
