According to CNN affiliate Nine News, Novak Djokovic has returned to the Park Hotel detention facility in Melbourne.
1 in the world of men was seen arriving at the hotel in a white van, which is also being used as a detention facility for refugees, when he left his lawyers’ office on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday morning, Djokovic was detained by Australian border officials, pursuant to a court-ordered arrangement decided on Friday, after Australia’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke revoked his visa for the second time.
He was once again placed in pre-immigration detention, as required by Australian law.
A large number of protesters gathered outside the Park Hotel. Some are supporting Djokovic and demanding his release, while others are speaking out against Australia’s detention system.
According to court documents published on January 8, during his first round of detention at the hotel, Djokovic had “requested to be moved to a more suitable place of detention that would enable him to train”.
CNN-affiliated Nine News, citing Paul Holdenson, one of the tennis star’s lawyers, said an appeal hearing to revoke Djokovic’s visa is expected at 9:30 a.m. Australia time on Sunday.
