Ian Poulter, who played for Ryder Cup Europe Team 2021 seemed upset by the lack of birthday shoutouts from the team’s Twitter account.
Poulter turned 47 on Tuesday and his teammate Sergio Garcia turned 43 on Monday. Both golfers quit PGA Tour, opt to play in Saudi-backed event life golf The series, which flaps its wings in 2022.
Poulter responded after tweeting a video to the Ryder Cup Europe Twitter account that shows Francesco Molinari landing on the green from the rough. The tweet read “incredible touch”.

“What is truly an ‘incredible touch’ are the players who along with other players helped build the @RyderCupEurope brand,” Poulter wrote. “You just can’t bring yourself to say a simple Happy Birthday. @TheSergioBarcia birthday tomorrow. Unfortunately that says a lot.”
Poulter was also a bit gobsmacked by teammate Lee Westwood on Twitter, but took it in stride.
Padraig Harrington picked Poulter to join his Ryder Cup Europe team in 2021 alongside Garcia and Shane Lowry. Poulter was 1–2 in three games and collected one point. America won the Ryder Cup.
LIV golfers are not banned from Ryder Cup qualifying at all. Luke Donald can invite European players to join LIV as his captain, unless the eligibility changes strictly for the tournament.
Poulter said in October that he still hoped to play in the Ryder Cup again.
“As far as I know, we can still qualify for the team,” Poulter said via the Guardian. “Until we’ve been told we can’t qualify, I’m prepared to play as much as possible and try to make that team.”
Earlier this month, Jon Rahm Called upon golf organizations to take a uniform decision on the matter.
“There are some people who are going to make some tough choices, right? A little bit of it is out of my reach. I guess I hope the PGA of America and the European Tour make a decision together. I don’t think CBS Sports Through that said, it would be smart to have one team allowing LIV players and one not.

“And besides, even if they decide not to go that side, I think it’s going to give a lot of great young players a chance to be showcased and given a chance in Europe, isn’t it? It’s just going to be an opportunity.” All of them are. We saw a young American team last Ryder Cup and they did what they did. So I’m looking forward to these young players who grew up watching the Ryder Cup and follow their ideals. Let’s see what they do, let’s say it energizes the team a little bit either way and we’ll be out there to win.”
