Lincoln County City Closes COVID-19 Testing Site After Driver Nearly Hit Officer Trying to Cut Line

Lincoln County, Mo. (KMOV.com) — The mayor of Lincoln County says a COVID-19 testing site was closed Wednesday due to heavy traffic and hostilities.

Winfield Mayor Don Garver said he called off a COVID-19 test because of heavy traffic and hostility from people in line for those tests. In one case, the mayor said that an agitated driver nearly hit an officer as they wanted to cross the line.

“I apologize if you were unable to reach your homes this morning due to the volume of traffic or if you were affected by any dangerous situation,” Mayor Graver said in a statement.

The City of Winfield is working with the test provider to provide better testing at Sawyer and city staff are communicating with emergency management to help facilitate the incident should the problem resurface.
