Lawyer: Pakistan acquits Czech model, convicted in drug case Lahore

A Czech model who was sentenced to eight years in prison for attempting to smuggle heroin from Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates will be set free next week after being acquitted by an appeals court, her lawyer said on Friday.

According to the lawyer, Tereza Hluskova was acquitted by an appeals court earlier this week in the eastern city of Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.

Her lawyer, Saiful Malook, said Hluskova, now 24, would be released early next week after the paperwork was completed.

She was arrested in January 2018 at the Lahore airport with 8.5 kg or 19 pounds of heroin, from where she was on her way to Ireland via the United Arab Emirates. His sentence also included a fine of US$800.

At the time of her arrest and during her trial, Hluskova, who came to Pakistan to work as a model, argued that she was innocent and that someone else had in her luggage.

Authorities in Pakistan regularly arrest both Pakistanis and foreigners for drug trafficking.
