Lavrov backs Sudan’s bid to lift UN sanctions

Khartoum: Russia’s top diplomat Sergei Lavrov held talks with Sudanese officials in Khartoum on Thursday, pledging to support their calls for the lifting of longstanding UN sanctions on the African nation.

Lavrov’s two-day visit is part of Russian efforts to increase influence on the African continent amid a wider international effort to isolate Moscow following its invasion of Ukraine last year.
