Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: Petition to file a separate FIR against Minister of State dismissed

on a court Lakhimpur Kheri on Tuesday rejected a plea seeking a direction to the police to register an FIR against Union Minister of State (Home) Ajay Mishra, his son Ashish and others in connection with the death of journalist Raman Kashyap. SUV convoy on October 3

The petition was filed by Kashyap’s brother Pawan.

After four farmers and Kashyap were allegedly crushed by a convoy of SUVs, two BJP Activists and a driver were allegedly thrashed to death by a mob of protesters. The police have so far registered two FIRs in connection with the incident – one on the killing of farmers and the other on the lynching of BJP workers – at the Tikoniya police station.

The journalist’s family wanted a separate case regarding his death and had sought a direction to the police to register a case against Mishra and his son. Pawan alleged that there was no mention of Raman’s name in the FIR lodged by the police and hence he wanted to register a separate FIR.

Senior Prosecution Officer (Lakhimpur Kheri) SP Yadav said, “On Tuesday, the court dismissed Pawan Kashyap’s plea seeking a direction to register an FIR in the matter.”

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of UP Police, which is probing the case, has arrested 13 people including Ashish Mishra and Ankit Das. Four people have been arrested for the murder of two BJP leaders and a driver.
