Lahore court orders registration of case against Rana Sanaullah, top police officers for misbehaving with lawyers

A sessions court in Lahore on Wednesday ordered registration of a criminal case against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and top police officials for alleged torture of lawyers in the provincial capital on May 25, PTI’s Azadi March.

The order was issued after an advocate named Haider Majeed Advocate filed a petition in the court accusing the police of not registering the case as demanded.

Barrister Hassan Niazi and other lawyers represented the petitioner, while a video of the incident was also played in the courtroom.

The petitioner sought registration of a case against the Interior Minister, CCPO Lahore, DIG Operation Lahore, SP Essa Sukheri (North Cantt Lahore), SP Waqar Azim Kharal, DSP Akbar Ali, SHO Asad Abbas and others.

After hearing the arguments on the petition, a copy of which is available with don.comAdditional Sessions Judge Mian Mudassar Umar Bodla ordered the concerned SHO to register a criminal case under section 154 (information in cognizable matters) of the Code of Criminal Procedure and process the matter “in accordance with law”.

The court order stated that the petitioner and his associates were in their vehicle when they were pulled over by the police.

It said the petitioners were “lathi charged, humiliated, humiliated and their vehicle badly damaged” even though they were cooperating with the law enforcers.

The court later asked the petitioner to approach the concerned SHO along with a copy of the court order to take the matter forward.
