Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has decided to investigate the defeat of PTI in the first phase of local body elections in the province. geo news on Tuesday.
Unofficial and unconfirmed results so far show that the ruling PTI has failed to capture even a single mayor’s seat in Sunday’s election. The party could win only one of the city’s six tehsils in Peshawar – from where it won all seats in the 2018 general elections.
Sources with knowledge of the matter said that Mehmood Khan is fully prepared to investigate the reasons for the defeat. Sources said strict action would be taken against those violating party discipline, adding that CM Mehmood would soon meet Prime Minister Imran Khan in this regard.

He said that strict action would be taken against those who were negligent in the investigation.
The Special Assistant said that the party’s performance in the state was not so bad. However, PTI suffered a setback as some of its workers contested as independent candidates in some districts, he admitted.
Saif said PTI candidates did well in Buner and some other districts in the recent local body elections.

Earlier today, reacting to a major setback to the ruling PTI in the first phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister Imran Khan admitted that his party has paid the price for making mistakes in the lead-up to the elections.
PM Imran Khan said in a post on Twitter that the selection of wrong candidates was the main reason behind his defeat in the elections in the province.
“PTI made a mistake and paid the price in the first phase of KP LG elections,” the prime minister wrote.
He vowed to personally oversee the electoral strategy of PTI in the second phase of KP local body elections and local government elections across Pakistan.
“From now on I will personally oversee PTI’s LG election strategy in the second phase of KP LG elections and LG elections across Pakistan. Inshallah PTI will emerge stronger.
