Kolkata civic body picks 11 micro containment zones to reopen safe houses

With the state capital witnessing a major spike COVID-19 In the cases, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has identified 11 micro containment zones. According to sources, the process of containment will start from January 3.

The city’s civic body has also decided to reopen safe houses in the city from next week.

In the last one week, Kolkata has seen a spurt in cases. While the cases stood at 382 on December 28, the number rose to 540 on December 29, doubling to 1,090 on December 30 and reaching 1,954 on New Year’s Eve.

Chief Minister presiding over the administrative meeting held recently in South 24 Parganas Mamata Banerjee He said that the state government is reviewing the situation and micro containment zones are likely to be identified soon.

On Friday, Mayor Firhad Hakim presided over a meeting of KMC which was also attended by MMIC (Health) Atin Ghosh. Officers of Kolkata Police were also present in the meeting.

A senior KMC official said, “In the meeting, we were told that no stone should be left unturned with regard to the preparedness of Kovid as the situation is likely to worsen.”
