thirty-three year old Robert Gordon appeared Saskatoon Provincial Court After being accused of making hate comments at Megan Gallagher’s obituary on Wednesday afternoon.

Megan’s father, Brian Gallagher, said the family had received an anonymous tip that a man was spreading racist comments about Megan on a funeral page.

Megan Gallagher was last seen in Sep 2020. His remains were found in September 2022, ending a two-year search.

Nine people have been charged in his murder.

Four were charged with first-degree murder. The remaining five were charged with desecration of his remains and aggravated assault.

Saskatoon police say the recent hate comments were never posted publicly because the website monitors comment submissions before they are published.

Comments reported on 1 December. Gordon was arrested on February 1 and charged with indecent communication.

Police say Gordon has not yet been charged with a hate crime, but requested an application because race was an aggravating factor.

Gallagher said the hardest part about hearing about the comments towards her daughter was the anonymity online.

Gallagher said, “To be a keyboard warrior, to sit there and hide behind as unknown as your computer screen, you can be very hurtful to people and that’s not acceptable.”

The family appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on February 15 to try to face the crime.

The family confirmed that the accused did not know Megan.

He said he was hoping to be in Vancouver this week, but court dates continue to rule his life.

Gallagher said, “It’s just the reality of Megan’s missing and Megan’s murder… We just do the best that we can.”

“When it all started an old friend of ours once told us, ‘All you have to do is get up in the morning and put one foot in front of the other and keep going’. There are other people who are counting on you and they There may be consequences for this.

The session was adjourned and there was no new update in the matter. Gordon is set to appear in court again on March 16.
