President Ram Nath Kovind honored Kartar Singh Saunkhale, a resident of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh with the Padma Shri award. The name of the district and the state has been illuminated by the award received by the artist of Hamirpur. Saunkhale reached Delhi with his wife Sunita Devi and son Ketan Saunkhale. Kartar Singh, who made bamboo artifacts in glass bottles, had directly applied for the Padma Shri award. His name was selected for the award by the central government on January 25 this year. Born in 1959 in Ratehada village of Nara Panchayat of Hamirpur district, Kartar Singh Saunkhale was interested in bamboo craft since childhood. In the year 2000, he started making bamboo artifacts inside glass bottles. Everyone is surprised to see this unmatched workmanship. He has created artworks from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to former President Late APJ Abdul Kalam inside glass bottles. Apart from this, he has also made artifacts of many historical heritage and buildings along with the Eiffel Tower in glass bottles with his workmanship. He retired as Chief Pharmacist at NIT Hamirpur in March 2019.

He completed his early education from Galod School and after that he did his graduation from College Bilaspur. After this he also completed his studies of D Pharma under the Department of Family and Welfare, but he kept the bamboo craftsmanship alive and continued to make art while on the job. He has been awarded with many national and international awards for his work. Asia Book of Records honored him with Grand Master, Indian Book of Records honored him with Excellence Award.
