Karnataka textbook review committee chief criticized for old tweet on porn

The head of the Karnataka Textbook Review Committee, Rohit Chakratirtha, has been embroiled in another controversy after a series of tweets posted on online porn in 2014 and 2015. Posting a screenshot of the tweet, a Twitter user said on Wednesday, “Tweet from a fellow who heads the curriculum committee for school lessons in Karnataka.”

Admitting that the tweets were from his account, Chakratirth was taken aback and said that the posts were meant to be “upbeat”. “It is not necessary that you are now the same as you were a decade ago. We all go through transformational changes in life. We were all excited about social media platforms in those days and I just posted a one-liner which was already in a public place,” he added. “I myself wrote an article on porn affecting children. Users who are mining these tweets must also remove other articles on education I wrote. Why are they so selective about positions?” Chakratirtha asked. “There is no link between social media posts on porn and the textbook review committee. People are looking for a way to surround me and this is happening for the last 10 years. I’m not surprised.”
