Karnataka Covid-19 wrap: 1,224 cases, 22 deaths; No RT-PCR required for air travelers from Europe, Middle East

Karnataka recorded 1,224 fresh admissions on Wednesday COVID-19 Taking the caseload to 29.42 lakh, 22 deaths took the toll to 37,206. On that day also 1,668 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 28,85,700.

The health department’s bulletin states that the active cases stand at 19,318. Bengaluru Urban had the highest number of 309 cases and three deaths.

Dakshina Kannada district bordering Kerala continued to be a major Covid-19 hotspot with 217 fresh infections and six fatalities. Fresh cases were also reported from other districts, including Udupi (130), Mysuru (102), Hassan (95) and Tumakuru (52).

Gadag district reported zero infections and zero deaths. Twenty districts reported zero fatalities, the bulletin said.

A total of 1,95,966 samples were tested in the state on Wednesday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 4.25 crore.

The number of vaccinations done so far in the state has increased to 3.83 crore, in which 3,36,984 people have been vaccinated today.

RT-PCR not mandatory for air travelers from Europe, Middle East

The Karnataka government has exempted travelers from the United Kingdom, other European countries and the Middle East from mandatory COVID-19 RT-PCR tests at airports in the state. Passengers from these countries can provide samples as per standard operating procedures and leave the airports for further compliance.

However, passengers arriving from South Africa and Brazil will continue to be tested at airports and will have to wait for the results. If negative, they can go out of the airport.

The government took this decision following the recommendations of the state’s Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee and the Centre’s guidelines.
