Karnataka becomes first state to implement NEP, launches digitization policy

Karnataka has become the first country in the country to officially implement the National Policy on Education (NEP- 2020) Dharmendra PradhanThe Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched the policy virtually on Monday.

Dharmendra Pradhan said that Karnataka has set a perfect example for other states of the country in terms of implementation of NEP-2020.

Karnataka has played a major role and has become a laboratory in the implementation of NEP. India has a student community of around 310 million (from standard 1 to higher education) and with 25 million new additions added every year, the real challenge lies in taking the benefits of NEP to all of them. Pradhan said the success of the NEP would enable the creation of a new global order.

To mark the occasion, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai launched the Admission Module as per NEP-2020. He announced that a new digitization and research and development policy focusing on students would be launched and a Council of Primary and Secondary Education would be set up with an aim to transform and empower the knowledge landscape of Karnataka.

Bommai said that due priority will be given to these policies and programs in the coming budget amid constraints. He also advised to introduce career guidance and personality development at the secondary education level to realize the goal of creating an equal society.

He further said that if the new policy is implemented successfully, the education system will be freed from the vertical silos, compartmentalization and closed jacket structure of the teaching-learning process.

He also announced that those appearing for first year degree courses will be given tablet PCs this year.
