Kanpur Violence: 9 more arrested, will put up hoardings with pictures of suspects

Officials said on Monday that the Uttar Pradesh Police will put up hoardings with photographs of key suspects involved in the Kanpur violence at prominent places in and around the affected areas.

He said that the hoardings will also have the contact numbers of station house officers and senior police officers so that people can inform the police about the suspects.

Officials said police have arrested nine more people in connection with the violence, taking the total number of those arrested to 38.

According to police, violence broke out in Parade, Nai Sadak and Yatimkhana areas of the city on Friday after some people forced shopkeepers to shut shutters over alleged derogatory remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Mohammad during a televised debate. Tried to force.

Additional commissioner of police, law and order, Anand Prakash Tiwari said, “We have identified around 100 more stone-pelters and rioters through CCTV footage and video clips.”

He said that the search operation is on and all possible locations are being raided to nab the rioters at the earliest.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Pramod Kumar said, “25 hoardings with photographs of around 20 key accused who were allegedly involved in the June 3 violence will be put up in the affected areas and nearby prominent places. The DCP said that it has been decided that the contact numbers of station house officers and senior police officers will also be provided and an appeal will be issued so that people can identify the suspects and inform the police.

“We have collected photographs of the accused persons through video clips, cameras and CCTV footage,” the DCP said.

Besides this, three more special teams with different functions have been formed to assist the Special Investigation Team headed by DCP (South) Sanjeev Tyagi, the officials said.

The first special team consisting of four members headed by Additional DCP (East) Rahul Mithai has been constituted to examine the CCTV footage, including government and private, and hand over the footage to the SIT.

A five-member special team headed by Assistant CP Swaroop Nagar and Brijnarayan Singh has been asked to investigate the matter related to dispensing of petrol in open bottles and containers from a petrol pump.

The third special team headed by Assistant CP (Cantonment) will keep a watch on provocative and false posts on social media including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and others.

He has also been asked to check social media posts of Maulana Mohammad Ali (MMA) Jauhar Fans Association chief Hayat Zafar Hashmi and his associates, which went viral on social media.

Police said Hashmi is believed to be the mastermind of the violence and was arrested on Saturday from Hazratganj area of ​​the state capital.
