Ryan is one of the hottest names among head coach candidates after serving as san francisco 49ers‘ Defensive coordinator for the past two seasons after Robert Saleh became head coach of the New York Jets.
One of the teams very interested in Ryan is the Texans, so could Watt be interested in joining their coaching staff if he is named their next head coach?
JJ Watt couldn’t hold back tears after watching the touching congratulatory video
Watt could also potentially show his support to Ryan joining his former team. Ryan reportedly told the Denver Broncos that he is no longer interested in their head coach vacancy, leading to speculation that Ryan believes he will be the next person from Houston to lead the franchise.
Watt and Ryan were only teammates for one season in Houston, as the latter signed with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 2012 season after six seasons with the Texans. Ryan made a total of two Pro Bowls while there.
Watt’s rookie season was not like the one in 2011, but he was the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 when Ryan left, recording 20.5 sacks and 39 tackles for loss in 16 games. He would win the award again in 2015.
The 12-year NFL veteran announced his retirement via Twitter following his final home game at State Farm Stadium.
