Jamal Kamal Khan resigns as Chief Minister of Balochistan

Jam Kamal Khan has stepped down as the Chief Minister of Balochistan, it was confirmed on Sunday evening.

“Jam Kamal Khan has submitted his resignation to the Governor of Balochistan, Syed Zahoor Ahmad Agha,” a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson Pend Khan Kharoti said.

Governor Agha has accepted the resignation.

Earlier in a tweet, Khan said that he had given his “extreme time and energy” to the governance and development of Balochistan despite “many deliberate political constraints”.

“I will respectfully leave and not be a part of their monetary agenda and building bad governance,” he said, referring to members of his own Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and a disgruntled group of allies demanding his resignation.

With the return of four ‘missing’ MPs from Islamabad to Quetta a day earlier and his declaration of support for displeased Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) MPs, the success of the no-confidence motion against Khan cannot be ruled out as Nawab Sanaullah Is. Jehri also joined hands with the disgruntled faction.

The four MPs went missing on the day when the angry factions with the support of the opposition parties moved a no-confidence motion Balochistan Assembly on 20 October

The chief minister’s opponents had alleged that four of his aides, including three women MPs, have been abducted.

MPA Akbar Askani, Bushra Rind, Laila Tareen and Mehjabeen Sheeran returned to Quetta by an official aircraft of the Balochistan government.
