Italy’s pragmatic prime minister leads charge for EU far right

ROME: After fostering pragmatic ties with Brussels, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni is to many the “moderate” face of Europe’s radical right – and is leading the charge in the run-up to June elections. The coming to power of Meloni’s post-fascist, Europe-sceptic Brothers of Italy in 2022 sent shock waves through the EU, sparking fears of a shift to the right within founding members of both the bloc and NATO.
