Israeli PM to visit UAE for the first time

LIVERPOOL: The G-7 said on Sunday that the time was running out for Iran to agree a deal to curb its nuclear ambitions.

Foreign ministers of the world’s richest nations held a two-day meeting in Liverpool, northwest England, to call for a strong, united front against global threats.

G7 host Britain’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said the resumed talks in Vienna are “the last chance for the Islamic Republic to come to the negotiating table with a serious resolve.”

“There is still time for Iran to come and agree on this deal,” he told a news conference.

The final release from the talks “must stop its nuclear escalation and take advantage of the opportunity to conclude an agreement while it is still possible.”

Talks resumed on Thursday to try to revive a 2015 deal between Iran and world powers, which the United States withdrew under Donald Trump in 2018.

Iran claims it only wants to develop a civilian capability, but Western powers say its stockpile of enriched uranium far exceeds that, and could be used to develop nuclear weapons.

US President Joe Biden has said he is ready to return to the deal and Iranian officials say they are committed to talks.

But Tehran has been accused of holding back from playing for the time being and progress made earlier this year.

Truss’s remarks are the first time the original deal signer has given an ultimatum to negotiate.
