Israel vows to protect its military from politics

DHEISHEH, Palestinian territories: The Palestinian health ministry said Israeli forces killed a Palestinian boy on Monday near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, where the army said they opened fire after people threw Molotov cocktails at them.
The ministry said Omar Khamor, 14, was shot in the head and wounded in the early hours of Monday in the Dhisheh refugee camp in the southern West Bank.
The Israeli army said on Monday that troops opened fire after “suspects threw stones, explosive devices and Molotov cocktails at soldiers”.
He is the second boy killed in Dhisheh during Israeli military incursions so far this month.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club advocacy group said troops in Dhisheh arrested a man.
The official Palestinian news agency Wafa said the army “entered the camp at dawn and launched a campaign of raids on civilian homes.”
Mourners gathered for Khamor’s funeral later on Monday, with his mother leading a procession of his body through Dhicheh.
His body was wrapped in a red and white keffiyeh scarf and a Palestinian flag before being taken away by Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) militants.
According to an AFP tally, Khamor is the fourteenth Palestinian killed in the West Bank, including civilians and fighters, most of whom have been killed by Israeli forces.
Following a series of deadly attacks targeting Israelis last March and April, the Israeli army launched near-nightly raids in the West Bank in which scores have been killed.
The violence in 2022 would make it the deadliest year in the West Bank since UN records began in 2005.
At least 26 Israelis and 200 Palestinians were killed across Israel and the Palestinian territories last year, according to AFP figures.
