A soldier was injured in a serious accident Thursday night in northeast Iowa, the Iowa State Patrol said Friday. According to the patrol, Trooper Ted Benda was assisting the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office with a call for service at 11:30. The patrol said that Benda was involved in a vehicle collision on Highway 51 about 6 miles north of Postville. “He was taken to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he remains in critical condition,” the Iowa State Patrol said in a news release. The investigation into the accident is ongoing. No other details were immediately released.
