Police say he managed to slip one hand out of his handcuffs and hit three guards with handcuffs multiple times, knocking two of them to the ground and resulting in one officer hitting his head on the pavement.
The inmate allegedly scaled a fence and tried to break the window of an empty vehicle with handcuffs, and failing that, jumped into an occupied vehicle and punched the driver.
Police allege he then rammed vehicles behind and in front of him, nearly hitting a corrections officer on the sidewalk, narrowly escaping a bicyclist and then hitting three more vehicles at another location, before police were finally able to pull him out of the driver’s seat and return him. A 28-year-old man faces multiple charges including fleeing from lawful custody, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and robbery with violence.
