“It’s really special, every hundred really takes something away from you and gives you pleasure. There’s a lot of emotion when you score a century. You bat for 6-7 hours, innings like that are different and one As players we really cherish these. That’s what is expected of me. Once I started well, I started enjoying my batting and I didn’t look too far ahead,” Rahul told BCCI. Told TV.

Rahul achieved some great feats, registering his seventh Test century at Centurion. He became the second Indian opener to score a century in the Rainbow Nation after Wasim Jaffer’s century at Cape Town in 2006–07.

The 29-year-old further said that when Keshav Maharaj was one run away from his century, he surprised himself with his calm nature.

“The preparation has been really good, on the first day all the batsmen were really focused. I just try to be in the moment when I’m in the middle. I was on 99 and with a spinner bowling, I thought it was a good opportunity to take a single or go over the top because everyone was inside. I was inspired to do so, but surprisingly, also in England when I scored that century at Lord’s. I’ve surprised myself with how calm I’ve been, my focus has always been on being in the moment and reacting to the ball being thrown. I am really happy that I could end the day on a good note.”

Rahul (122) will resume India’s innings at 272/3 on the second day along with Ajinkya Rahane (40*).
