JAKARTA: As soon as he realized how much his mother tongue has been influenced by Arabic, Zakiyatul Fikriyah found himself drawn to it even more.
At Universitas Padjajaran in Bandung, one of Indonesia’s best universities, the 18-year-old recently joined the Arabic literature program on its campus to explore a deeper connection between her country and the Middle East.
“What I find interesting is learning about that process of influence, and how it may be linked to the spread of Islam in Indonesia,” he told Arab News.
