In Andaman, Amit Shah renamed island as ‘Mount Manipur’, says Bose, Patel didn’t get his due

Claiming that many freedom fighters including Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Savarkar were not given their due in independent India, Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the government has renamed Mount Harriot Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Mt. Manipur has been decided. In memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the country from the north-eastern state.

“Manipur was instrumental in opposing the British throughout the Northeast during the revolution of 1857 and also in 1891. Manipur never gave up and the people there kept fighting. Manipur was the only state which implemented its own constitution. Manipuri war heroes Yuvraj Tikendrajit and General Thangal were publicly hanged at Fida, Imphal. The British felt that they had crushed the freedom movement by hanging him, but it did not happen. After that Maharaja Kulchandra Dhwaja Singh and 22 freedom fighters were sent to Kala Pani and kept on Mount Harriet here. Today we would like to honor his contribution by renaming Mount Harriet as Mount Manipur in his memory.

The Union Home Minister said that the Manipur government has plans to build a memorial at this place and added that the memorial will inspire tourists, youth and younger generation across the country to fight with limited resources.

Shah is in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on a three-day visit. On Saturday, he inaugurated various development projects at Ross Island, which has now been renamed as Netaji Subhash Dweep.

According to the Home Ministry, Shah said that an injustice has been done to Netaji.

“The bright pole star in the history of the freedom movement, Netaji did not get the importance he deserved. Over the years, attempts were made to undermine many well-known leaders of the freedom movement and their contributions. But now the time has come that everyone should get their due place in history, those who contributed and sacrificed their lives should get their proud place in history, and that is why Prime Minister Narendra Modi named this island after Netaji Subhash Chandra. Decided to name Bose,” the MHA quoted him as saying.

Shah said that similar injustice has happened to Sardar Patel.

“Indian republic today would not have been possible if Sardar Patel had not made more than 550 princely states a part of India in less than a year and a half. Sardar sahib also did not get the same respect as he should have got after independence. But… no matter how much injustice is done to someone, good deeds are never hidden and today in Kevadiya Narendra Modi has installed the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Saheb, which people from all over the world come to see. .’ .

“In the coming days, we are going to develop this island as well and build a grand memorial for Subhash Babu,” he said.

Shah said 14 projects worth Rs 299 crore were inaugurated in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday and the foundation stone of 12 projects worth Rs 643 crore was laid.

“The Modi government is today starting development work worth about Rs 1,000 crore in a small area of the Andaman Islands. The government has decided to name the bridge inaugurated today as Azad Hind Fauj Bridge. Everyone passing through this bridge will travel from one end to the other paying tribute to Netaji’s 35,000 km journey, his courage and his valor.
