Mecca: The urban design code for Riyadh’s Sports Boulevard project on Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Road has been revealed.

The Board of Directors of the Sports Boulevard Foundation, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, announced the launch following an earlier decision to create a unified design code for the project.

The 135-km-long boulevard, which has an estimated area of ​​over 2.3 million square metres, aims to promote the physical, psychological and social health of residents as well as visitors. It will include green spaces covering an estimated 4.4 million square metres.

Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Marshad, chairman of the Saudi Chambers’ Real Estate National Committee, told Arab News: “The importance of the Sports Boulevard project lies in the fact that it is one of four major projects in Riyadh to be received by King Salman. One of the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to raise Riyadh’s ranking among the world’s cities. “The code aims to establish a local identity and apply the principles of Salami architecture,” he said.

The Salmani architectural style is distinguished by its vibrancy and flexibility. It inspires architects and planners to innovate, seek inspiration and imitate the past in new forms within the confines of a unique Saudi architectural tradition.

Al-Marshad said the project would also provide a diverse housing development to boost the area and encourage development while adhering to energy sustainability standards.

He added: “The code seeks to achieve a number of positive aspects that are important to residents and the region, including enhancing the quality of architectural and urban design to promote the attractiveness of the city as well as economic efficiency and investment climate. While also encouraging the housing sector by providing new and diverse housing patterns.

“It establishes additional walking paths within residential neighborhoods and encourages development according to standards that achieve sustainability as well as save energy.”
