Hundreds descend on Atlantic station to fight breast cancer

ATLANTA (CBS46) – Hundreds of pedestrians took to the streets at Atlantic Station Saturday morning to seek treatment.

The annual Making Strides Walk Against Breast Cancer began at 9 a.m. and brought everyone together to help raise awareness about breast cancer.

The annual outing is a major donation driver and helps raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.

CBS46’s Karyn Greer was the event’s Emmy and she was joined en route by CBS46 teammates Rodney Harris and Fred Campagna.

ATLANTA (CBS46) — The annual tradition of taking action against breast cancer is returning in 2021.

The Walk at Atlantic Station is scheduled for this Saturday, October 23. Registration for those who signed up is at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m. Walk-up registration is welcome!

The start line is located at the intersection of 17th and District Streets. The Finish Line is at 19th Street in the Atlantic Station business district.

Thousands of people are expected to walk together for treatment. In past years, the Atlanta Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk has raised up to a million dollars.

Those who come will be ready to fight, ready to inspire, and ready to support them in their battle with breast cancer.

“Cancer has been a death sentence for my family,” said breast cancer survivor Felicia Mahone.

Mahone had lost his mother, two aunts and a cousin even before he learned of his diagnosis.

“I just wanted to shed light on the situation, and just want to give hope to other people and let them know that even though I’ve lost many people in my family to breast cancer, God has given me a fit to survive.” Saw. So as long as I’m alive I’m going to thrive, and I’m going to help other people survive.”

So Mahon, along with hundreds of others, will be at the Atlantic station on Saturday morning to rally support in the fight against breast cancer.

“Just because someone passed away before you. Just because you know someone next door passed away. You can live, and you can live, and I’m listening for you.”

Taking action against breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society were introduced to help unite communities In the fight against the deadly disease. Making Strides has the largest breast cancer incidence network in the country. As part of the walk, people help raise money for the American Cancer Society to help with unprecedented breast cancer research and provide inpatient services such as free rides to chemo, free places to live near treatment, and a live 24/7 cancer helpline.

Parking at Atlantic Station is free for the first 2 hours; Small charge no more than $7.00 for up to 4 hours.

For those taking MARTA, the access point is the Arts Center station at 1255 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309 (15th Street at West Peachtree Street – about 1 mile from the event site).
