HPD says self and child detained after barricading in SW Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A child is expected to recover, and his father has been arrested after a SWAT scene in southwest Houston.

The scene began on Thursday afternoon at an apartment complex in the 8100 block of Belair Boulevard near Waldo Street.

According to the police, the man barged into the apartment of a friend of his girlfriend and took the child, who is also his son. He then broke into another apartment, which belonged to his girlfriend, but she was not at home.

SWAT was called to the scene, as police said the man was acting irrationally and they were concerned for the child’s well-being. After this the person locked himself with the child.

After more than an hour, police said the man had been taken into custody and the child was being examined, but there was no harm.
