Hong Kong’s ‘Grandma Wong’ jailed for protesting democracy

HONG KONG: An elderly woman who became a part of Hong Kong’s democracy protests was jailed on Wednesday for unlawfully gathering, a day after courts found a 75-year-old activist with a serious illness The worker was put in jail.
Alexandra Wong, 66, known as “Grandma Wong”, was a regular presence at the protests three years ago, usually waving the flag of the British Union Jack.
Prosecutors accused her of participating in two illegal gatherings and shouting “objectionable words” on August 11, 2019, saying her flag-waving and slogans encouraged an illegal gathering.
