An undertrial in a murder case brought up for trial in Hapur district court was shot dead by a group of assailants outside the court premises on Tuesday morning. Police said Lakhan Singh, 30, was brought to the district court by the Haryana Police; He was lodged in the Faridabad District Jail.

After the incident, Superintendent of Police (Hapur) Deepak Bhukar suspended the station in-charge of Kotwali police station, Somveer Singh and in-charge of Kacheri police station, Sub-Inspector Ramesh Chandra. According to the police, Circle Officer (City) SN Vaibhav Pandey has been removed from his post and attached to Hapur Police Headquarters.

The police suspect that Singh’s murder was due to a rivalry between the gang. When Singh came out of the vehicle, unidentified assailants opened fire on him, an official said. Hapur Additional SP Mukesh Chandra Mishra said, “As soon as they fell under them, the attackers fled. Singh was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
