Ruth Maddockstar of Hi-de-hi!Has passed away at the age of 79.
The news was confirmed by his agent a few days after the actor went to the hospital for surgery following a fall earlier this week.
Phil Belfield of talent agency Belfield & Ward Ltd said: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of our dear and much loved client Ruth Maddock.
He hailed Maddock as “one of a kind and a unique talent loved by many” and described him as “a genuine legend of the British entertainment scene”.
Maddock was best known for playing Gladys Pugh in the BBC comedy sitcom hi-de-hi!, for which he Received a BAFTA TV Award nomination for Best Light Entertainment Performance.
She appeared in the sitcom, which was set at the fictional 50-something holiday camp Maplins, from 1980 to 1988.
