A press conference was called at BHU on Wednesday by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar and BHU Vice Chancellor C Sudhir K Jain to give details of the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam, which will be inaugurated by the PM.

Talking about the three-day event starting Thursday, Kumar said, “Heads of 400 institutions, policy makers, academicians, heads of regulatory bodies, researchers and many such experts will participate in the conclave.”

He said that the program has been divided into 11 sessions. Out of these, nine will be themed and two additional two sessions will talk about the success stories after the implementation of NEP.

“There will be three sets comprising of nine subjects. The first set will consist of topics from holistic and multidisciplinary education. The second is research, innovation and entrepreneurship. You all know that our country ranks third in the world in terms of promoting research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The third is about governance of our educational system and facility creation for teachers so that they can adapt to new conditions with technology. These are the three important topics of the first set,” said the UGC chairman.

“In the second set, we will discuss the quality, ranking and accreditation of our universities. The second will be on digital empowerment and online education where experts will talk about it. We will also discuss how to make our education system highly accessible,” He added.

“In the last three sessions, we will discuss how to promote Indian languages and Indian knowledge systems. You know that due to the colonial influence on our country, we have neglected our Indian languages in the education system. It is very important that we promote our Indian languages as a medium in higher educational institutions. Experts will discuss what efforts are being made to promote Indian languages in the higher education system,” Kumar said.

“We hope that at the end of these three days, we will identify outcome and action-based points so that these can be distributed to all educational institutions in the country for faster implementation of the NEP,” he said.

Talking about NEP, Kumar said, “You all know that NEP was started almost two years back. By the end of this month, we will complete two years of NEP launch. Since then, many things have happened. The first, of course, is to create nationwide awareness of the NEP. Several webinars and seminars were organized. Even though the country was going through a pandemic, colleges rose to the occasion to create awareness about NEP.

“Everyone knows that the NEP is a great vision document to transform education in our country so that India can become a world guru for the rest of the world. This is the underlying theme for the NEP,” he said.

“In the recent past we have announced several reforms in education such as academic bank of credit to provide mobility to students from one university to another, multiple entry and multiple exit scheme for students. The basic idea is to provide students with a lot of flexibility and freedom to access high quality education.

And to do so we have also brought in several rules from the UGC,” said the Chairman.
