Queen Elizabeth’s coffin arrives at RAF Northolt ahead of journey to Buckingham Palace
Prince Harry and Prince William will walk alongside their father, King Charles III, today as they will follow the Queen’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where the late monarch will lie in state.
After being laid overnight in the Bow Room — the same room in the palace’s west wing used by the Queen to host world leaders — the monarch will depart her longstanding home in London for a final time in a procession due to begin at 2.22pm on Wednesday.
The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II arrived at Buckingham Palace from St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh on Tuesday, where it was received by King Charles III, Queen’s grandchildren, their spouses and other senior royals.
The procession of the Queen’s coffin from Edinburgh saw a journey marked by huge lines of mourners filling the streets of the two capital cities in drizzly weather.
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest serving monarch many in the United Kingdom have ever known, died on 8 September after serving seven decades on the throne, aged 96.
Casket carrying Queen Elizabeth II arrives at Buckingham Palace
The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II reached Buckingham Palace last evening, after making its way through London as crowds lined the route for a glimpse of the hearse in a drizzly weather and bid her a final farewell.
People wanting to catch one final glimpse parked their cars along a normally busy road, got out and waved as the hearse, with lights inside illuminating the flag-draped coffin, made its way into London.
People pressed in on the road in the city and held their phones aloft as it passed.
Shouts of “God save the queen!” were heard. People clapped as the hearse swung around a roundabout in front of the queen‘s official London residence and through the wrought iron gates.
Her son, King Charles III, and other immediate family members waited inside.

Oprah sparks backlash for suggesting Queen’s death could give Harry and Meghan ‘opportunity for peacemaking’
Oprah Winfrey has sparked a debate over her role in the tensions between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and members of the royal family after suggesting that Queen Elizabeth II’s passing provides “an opportunity for peacemaking”.
“Well, this is what I think,” the talk-show host said on Monday. “I think in all families – you know, my father passed recently, this summer, and when all families come together for a common ceremony, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there’s an opportunity for peacemaking. And hopefully, there will be that.”
