Harish Rawat will contest from Ramnagar, Congress releases second list for Uttarakhand elections – Bharat Times Hindi News

The Congress on Monday released its second list of 11 candidates for the Uttarakhand assembly elections and fielded former chief minister Harish Rawat from Ramnagar assembly constituency. The party’s campaign chief in the state, Harish Rawat, unsuccessfully contested the Haridwar-Rural and Kichha assembly seats in the 2017 assembly elections.

Congress has also fielded Anukreethy Gusain Rawat from Lansdowne assembly seat. She is the daughter-in-law of Harak Singh Rawat, who returned to the Congress from the BJP on Friday. The party is yet to decide on Harak Singh Rawat’s candidature and is yet to announce candidates for six more seats.

With this, after the release of the first list of 53 candidates on Saturday night, the Congress has so far released its candidates for 64 candidates. Voting for the 70-member assembly in Uttarakhand is to be held in a single phase on February 14. The results will come on March 10.

The party in its first list has fielded Uttarakhand Congress President Ganesh Godiyal from Srinagar seat and Leader of Opposition in the outgoing Assembly Pritam Singh from Chakrata (ST) constituency. Former state assembly speaker Yashpal Arya, who recently quit BJP and joined Congress, has been fielded from his Bajpur-SC constituency.

Arya’s son Sanjeev Arya has also been fielded from the Nainital (SC) assembly seat, which he left after resigning from the BJP along with his father. Senior Congress leader Indira Hridayesh’s son Sumit Hridayesh, who died in June last year, has been fielded from the Haldwani assembly seat. The Congress has also retained most of its sitting MLAs in its two lists announced so far.
