The Finance Ministry on Friday said GST collection in June grew 56 per cent year-on-year to over Rs 1.44 lakh crore on economic reforms and better anti-theft measures.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in June 2021 stood at Rs 92,800 crore.

Speaking at the GST Day celebrations, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Rs 1.4 lakh crore is “roughly the bottom line” for monthly GST revenue collection.

This is the fifth time that the monthly GST collection since the introduction of GST has crossed the Rs 1.40 lakh crore mark and the fourth consecutive month since March 2022, the ministry said in a statement.

During June, revenue from import of goods was 55 per cent higher and revenue from domestic transactions (including import of services) was 56 per cent higher than revenue from these sources during the corresponding month of the previous year.

The ministry said that the total number of e-way bills in the month of May 2022 was 73 crore, which is 2 per cent less than the 7.4 crore e-way bills generated in the month of April 2022.

The GST collection in May was Rs 1.41 lakh crore and in April it touched a record high of Rs 1.68 lakh crore.
