Government selected MPs, Ministers for hospital patient welfare committees

The West Bengal government has announced the names of state ministers and MPs (MPs) as the chairman of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti of various hospitals.

According to the notification issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department on 23rd December, Cooperation Minister Arup Rai has been nominated as the President of Howrah District Hospital; MP Mahua Moitra of Krishnanagar District Hospital, MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar of Barasat District Hospital.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Arup Biswas has been named as the Chairman of MR Bangur Hospital; Soumen Kumar Mohapatra, Minister of Irrigation and Waterways, Tamluk District Hospital; Moloy Ghatak, Labor Minister of Asansol District Hospital.

Ruden Sada Lepcha and Amar Singh Rai will head the patient welfare committees of the Kalimpong and Darjeeling district hospitals. Ruden Sada Lepcha is the MLA of Kalimpong and the vice-president of the Bharatiya Gorkha Democratic Front (BGPM). A former MLA, Amar Singh Rai is the Vice Chairman of the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) and a member of the Central Committee of the BGPM.

Under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Rogi Kalyan Samitis (RKS) were started in 2005 to improve the functioning of public health facilities, increase participation and increase accountability.
