Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made the allegation on Sunday BJPCentral government to save Union Minister Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish Lakhimpur Kheri case. Launching the party’s 2022 UP election campaign from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, he said only BJP leaders and their “billionaire” friends are safe in the country.
Priyanka started her speech by invoking Goddess Durga at the party’s Kisan Nyay rally. “I am on a fast and I will begin my speech with stuti (prayer) to the mother,” she said. The Congress General Secretary recited two verses in Sanskrit and led the people in slogans of ‘Jai Mata Di’.
Priyanka attacked the BJP on several fronts – from farmers’ turmoil to inflation and unemployment – and urged people to usher in “Parivartan (change)” in the state by replacing the Yogi Adityanath government.
“In this country, only two groups of people are safe – BJP leaders and their billionaire friends. No person of any religion or caste is safe; Neither labourers, nor sailors, dalits, minorities, poor, women are safe. In this country, the Prime Minister, his ministers, those in power and all his billionaire friends are safe,” Priyanka said.
Accusing the BJP government of shielding Ashish Mishra, Priyanka said, “Last week Union Minister of State (Home) Ajay Mishra’s son crushed farmers with his vehicle. The families of all the victims said that they want justice… You must have seen how the government is trying to save the minister and his son. While the administration was busy stopping the opposition leaders, police were deployed in the night to stop me and put the family members of the victims under house arrest. Not a single policeman went to nab the accused. Instead, he was sent an invitation (for questioning) by the police.
“…and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister (Yogi Adityanath) is supporting the minister from a public platform,” she said.
Questioning Prime Minister Modi for not going to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the families of the killed farmers, Priyanka Gandhi said: “The Prime Minister can visit every corner of the world..America, can go to Japan…but he is not on the border. can go The Prime Minister came to Lucknow to talk to the farmers protesting against the three new agricultural laws, but could not travel for two hours to wipe the tears and hold hands of farmers’ families at Lakhimpur Kheri.
“All the families of the farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri said that they have no hope of justice…if there is atrocities on anyone in this country, then where will the government, CM, PM, minister of state for home, MLAs go for justice, Everyone has joined hands and turned their backs on people.”
He ended his speech with ‘Jai Mata Di’ and wished people a Happy Navratri. As soon as the meeting started, Priyanka, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and other Congress leaders raised slogans of ‘Har Har Mahadev’. This was followed by recitation of passages from the Quran and Gurbani.
