Amaravati, July 14 (IANS) | Many villages situated on the banks of Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh are in spate.As the water continued to flow over the river, the water level rose. The third flood level warning is likely to be issued on Thursday night at Dovaleswaram barrage.
The Godavari level is rising in Doleswaram and Polavaram due to heavy inflow from upstream reservoirs in Telangana.
According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, the inflow and outflow at Dovaleswaram barrage was 16.27 lakh cusecs.
If the river crosses the third level of flood, it can affect 524 villages in 42 mandals of six districts.
About 40 villages along the fringes of East Godavari, Konaseema and Kakinada districts have been cut off by the floods.
Indian Navy helicopters are carrying out rescue and relief work in the flood affected villages of Eluru. Indian Navy launched two medium-lift UH3H helicopters from INS Dega for rescue and relief operations.
Helicopters were sent to Koyada and Katukuru villages of Velerupadu mandal in Eluru district.
People from some villages have moved to safer places by boats. The villagers of the flood affected villages were facing great difficulties due to lack of food and drinking water.
Seven teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and five teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed for disaster relief operations in the affected areas.
Around 12,000 people have been shifted to relief camps in the affected districts.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Godavari region on Friday.
He has directed the officials to be alert for heavy floods and take necessary steps to keep the people safe by arranging relief camps with necessary facilities. He directed the officials to periodically monitor the situation in Polavaram and Doleswaram and alert the people of low-lying areas.
Officials informed him that the flood water is likely to rise in the next 24 to 48 hours, which may go up to 23-24 lakh cusecs, as water is being drawn from all the reservoirs of Godavari basin including Sri Rama Sagar in Telangana. , free.
