Girl attacked in Amethi: Congress will launch agitation if accused are not arrested, says Priyanka Gandhi

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday attacked the Yogi Adityanath government over the beating of a Dalit girl in Amethi and said his party would launch an agitation if the accused in the case were not arrested soon.

His remarks came after a video of a 16-year-old Dalit girl purportedly thrashing and molesting her went viral on social media.

Attaching the video of the incident, the Congress General Secretary tweeted, ‘If the criminals who committed this inhuman act are not caught within 24 hours, then Congress will work to wake you up by vigorous agitation.

“This incident of brutal thrashing of a Dalit girl in Amethi is condemnable. @MYOGIADITYANATH Sir under your rule there are on average 34 incidents of crime against Dalits and 135 against women every day, yet your law and order is sleeping,” she said.

Amethi Deputy Superintendent of Police Arpit Kapoor said that one accused has been arrested in this case while police teams have been formed to arrest the others.

Police had approached the girl and based on her father’s complaint, a case was registered against accused Suraj Soni, Shivam and Sakal under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act .

The officer said that the survivor is a resident of a village under Sangrampur police station area of ​​Amethi district and the incident Raipur Phulwari town.
