BRASÍLIA: Germany on Monday outlined more than $200 million in contributions to environmental projects in Brazil as Chancellor Olaf Scholz toured the South American giant battered by Amazon destruction under former President Jair Bolsonaro.
The package includes a new $33.6 million in aid to Brazilian states for rainforest protection, on top of the $38 million already announced for the Amazon Conservation Fund, for which Germany and Norway have pledged to support climate-skeptic Bolsonaro. Payment was withheld.
