Georgia couple say pool rental through app helps pay their mortgage

Atlanta, Ga. (CBS46) — You might not be able to buy your own piece of heaven, but thanks to an app, you can rent someone else’s.

“We are known for our elephant ears,” said Jim Beach.

Whether you want to celebrate a birthday or graduation, or you just want some peace and quiet, Beach Family is offering you your own backyard for a price.

“It’s like Airbnb, the easiest way to put it. Instead of renting out a house, we’re renting out our backyard,” Beach said.

With an app called Swimly, you can rent Gym and Megan’s Pool and many more by the hour.

“The first month he paid for our mortgage, that was great,” Beach said.

The app has been around for three years. They aim to be a platform where people can rent their favorite venues, such as private basketball and tennis courts or art rooms, to paying customers.

“Many of our landlords are making an average of $5,000 a month renting out their pools on Swimley. Our top owner based out of Florida has already made close to $200,000 and has only been on Swimley for a year and a half. But it has been,” Ha Nguyen said with a swimsuit.

There are rules for how many people are allowed to rent your rental gathering or your pool.

“Find out if your HOA or your town or city allows Airbnb rentals because we’re really no different than that,” said Ha Nguyen, Swimley.

One family’s accommodation is becoming the other family’s paid bill, all through one app.

“Not only have we made a little bit of money, which is good for the mortgage, but we’ve made some friends,” Jim said.
