George Clooney says America is ‘like a battered child’ after ‘knucklehead’ Trump presidency

Hollywood actor and Biden collaborator George Clooney Donald Trump’s four-year split in the White House after ‘Knucklehead’ has compared America to a ‘battered child’ and sensationally claimed that the former president ‘can’t stand his supporters in real life’.

Speaking to the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, left-wing Democrats – friends of both the President and Barack Obama – said Americans have been ‘very hard on each other’ for the past five years and added that ‘there is a lot of healing to be done and it’s going to take time’.

Clooney – a 60-year-old father married to Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal, himself 43 – also discussed Joe Biden’s declining popularity among American voters while promoting his upcoming film The Tender Bar, which starred Ben Affleck. did. and explores life in small-town America from the 1970s.

A new survey from Quinnipiac University found that just 38 percent approve of Biden’s job performance. Although 48 percent of voters said they approve of the president’s aggressive approach, including his push for a vaccine mandate, less than 40 percent gave him positive marks on his handling of the economy, his foreign policy and handling of immigration.

But Clooney blamed the Trump era for much of the division in American society and compared America to a ‘battered child’. He also suggested that Biden should not pay much attention to poll numbers, pointing out that Trump’s approval ratings have also risen and fallen.

‘I mean, you can’t – it’s like taking a battered kid and thinking that everything will be all right on his first day at school. There’s a lot of things that have to be repaired, there’s a lot of healing that has to happen and it’s going to take time,’ Clooney said. ‘Voting numbers come up and go down, I would expect them to go up again. Donald Trump’s numbers went up and down.

Speaking to the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, the left-wing Democrat – a friend of both the President and Barack Obama – said Americans have “been tough on each other” for the past five years and added that “there is a lot of healing to be had.” It is and it is going to take time’

When Marr told him that Trump was ‘walking around in rhododendrons’, Clooney replied: ‘He’s going to be a factor for a while.

‘It’s so funny because he was just that, I knew him before he became president. He was just a boy chasing girls. Every time you went out, he would come and be like: ‘What’s that girl’s name?’ That was it.

‘And the idea that there’s this whole bunch of people, you know, that he thinks is the champion, which he certainly can’t stand in real life. He will play it for a while and we will see where we go with it as a country. I hope we have a little better understanding than to do it again, my hope.’

Asked if he would ever work in American politics, the 60-year-old said: ‘No, no, no, because I really want to live a good life.

‘I turned 60 this year, you know, and I had a conversation with my wife and I said – we were doing a lot of work, as we both do – and I said, we’ve got to see these in recent years. Have to think as

‘If we have our health, which we do – knock on the wood for a minute – and I’m 60 and I can still play basketball and still do the things I love. But in 20 years I will be 80 and that is a real number. It doesn’t matter how much you exercise, what you eat – you’re 80. And so I said: “We have to make sure we enjoy and live these years in the best possible way.”

Clooney previously compared the Trump era to McCarthyism, a term derived from the anti-communist witch-hunts against the Left led by Senator McCarthy in the 1950s, which now more broadly refers to the practice of making baseless accusations of treason. Refers.

Receiving an honorary award at the Caesars Awards in Paris in early 2017 – just weeks after Trump’s inauguration – Clooney said: ‘I was thinking of Edward R. Murrow as we find ourselves nostalgic for the times When America was great and when the news was not fake. Maybe his words of some 60 years old can help put things in perspective.’

He then pieced together quotes from one of Murrow’s most famous telecasts, which saw him rebuke McCarthy on CBS in 1954.

Clooney - a 60-year-old father married to Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal, himself 43 - also discussed Joe Biden's declining popularity among American voters while promoting his upcoming film The Tender Bar.

‘We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We shouldn’t run in fear of each other,’ Clooney said.

We should not enter an illogical age through fear. If we delve deep into our history and remember that we are not the descendants of fearful people, we truly declare to ourselves that we are the defenders of freedom wherever we exist in the world. But we cannot protect freedom abroad by leaving it at home.

‘The actions of this president have caused concern and dismay among our allies abroad and have brought great comfort to our enemies. And whose fault is that? Not really his. He did not create this state of fear, he only exploited it – rather successfully. Cassius was right. ‘The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.’ Good Night, and Good Luck.’

Clooney, who supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, also dubbed Trump a “Hollywood elitist” and expressed his support for actress Meryl Streep after she was criticized at the Golden Globes.
