Gandhinagar: Three flights flagged off from Bhavnagar

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Friday flagged off three direct flights of a private airline company connecting Bhavnagar with Delhi, Mumbai and Surat, an official release said.

The event saw the presence of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation General VK Singh, Gujarat Civil Aviation Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Gujarat. BJP Chief CR Patil and Bhavnagar MP Bhartiben Shiyal among others.

Scindia and Rupani virtually joined from Delhi and Gandhinagar respectively.

Flights from Bhavnagar to Delhi and Mumbai will operate on all days of the week except Tuesdays and Saturdays. Whereas Bhavnagar to Surat will operate on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in a week.

On the occasion, Rupani was quoted as saying that the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided three flights to Gujarat, observing that it is scaling new heights of development. And with this he said, a new chapter is being written for Bhavnagar. He said that earlier due to Modi’s efforts Bhavnagar had got maritime connectivity with Surat through Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax services.

Rupani said that the ship breaking business of Bhavnagar is flourishing. Apart from this, the recently announced vehicle scrap policy and the proposed first CNG plant of the country are also going to benefit it. With the increase in air connectivity, Rupani said, facilities for traders will be increased.

The release quoted Scindia as saying that point-to-point connectivity is a very important factor for the growth of trade and business. He said that with the democratization of air services, air services have also been made available to the common people. He further said that earlier there were 70 airports in the country which have been increased to 136.

Patil called for more flights to Surat with increased demands and expressed happiness over Gujarat getting three flights in a single day. He said that earlier people had to agitate for air service.
