Freezing rain forecast for the Barrie area Thursday – Barrie | globalnews.ca

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement Thursday for parts of southern Ontario, including Barrie, Midland and Orillia freezing rain in forecast.

The national weather agency said that heavy rain with strong winds and gusty winds could occur from Thursday morning.

The weather agency said freezing rain is possible with light snow accumulation with rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm.

Environment Canada is also expecting a southwest wind of 60 to 80 km/h.

The weather agency said the risk of freezing rain is likely in higher altitude areas.

The rain is expected to reduce by Thursday evening.

According to the weather agency, strong southwesterly winds are expected from Thursday afternoon to Thursday evening.

Environment Canada warned that icy and slippery roads and walkways could make travel conditions dangerous.

Strong winds can toss loose objects or break tree branches, and isolated utility outages are possible.

The weather agency also warns that there could be localized flooding in areas with poor drainage.
