Jonathan Papelbone was a thorn in the side of the New York Yankees during his time Boston Red Sox The mid-2000s and Tuesday fueled the rivalry’s fire.
After the release of the first episode of ESPN’s Derek Jeter documentary, Papelbone tweeted that the company should do a series on the “real captain” who fought Alex Rodriguez.

The former MLB close was referring to the epic feud between Rodriguez and then-Red Sox catcher Jason Veritec in 2004. Varitek threw his glove in Rodriguez’s face, which proved to be a part of Boston’s rallying cry when on his way first world series Considered the “curse of the Bambino” since 1918.
Papelbon and Varitek were teammates from 2005 to 2011.

Papelbon was a four-time All-Star who appeared in 396 games and recorded a 2.33 ERA with 509 strikeouts. He was in the Red Sox minor league system when Varitek and Rodriguez fought, He would help Boston win the World Series in 2007.

Varitek spent his entire 15-year career with Boston. He scored 193 home runs and batted .256 with .776 OPS. He won two World Series titles, was an All-Star three times, and won the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger once each.
