She also blamed the media coverage which meant she was ‘unlikely to receive a fair trial’.

However, her biggest claim was that she was abroad and would not be able to appear before the court.

On 18 January, police were given an address in Los Angeles to brief evidence against him.

At the hearing on 2 February, del Busso reportedly appeared via video link from Los Angeles and said she would not be able to appear in court until May due to ‘work commitments’.

But police presented evidence in court from the Border Force which showed she had in fact returned to Australia from overseas on December 11, 2022 – and had not returned.

Magistrate Donnelly ruled that the medical documents were not specific enough to meet the court’s requirements and dismissed her claims that she may have received an unfair trial.

“It is common for the media to comment on cases before the court and it is part of the process of the court system where the media can scrutinize the decisions,” he said.

Del Busso was charged with two counts of theft of property from an employer in July 2021 following an investigation by St. George Police.

Police said in court documents that she stole $35,785 between September 2019 and February 2020 from Rheumatology Specialist Care in Kogarah – now known as Integrated Specialist Medical Care.

How del Busso stole $52k

According to police facts, Del Busso started working as a receptionist at Rheumatology Specialist Care on 10 September 2019.

The RSC has four branches across Sydney, with Del Busso operating in Kogarah and Randwick practices

Two months after starting, Del Busso was promoted to second in charge after the manager, whose new position included depositing cash into the company’s NAB account when the manager was not working.

This also includes matching all payments that were made through the Company’s system with Eftpos transactions and balances.

In December 2019, signs were placed around stores advising customers that cash would no longer be accepted as a payment method from January 2020.

However, when the manager left between December and February 2020, Del Buso began asking other receptionists if she could swap to work at the Randwick practice.

The Randwick practice only has one receptionist each day, compared to Kogarah, which has three.

While the manager was away, Del Busso called customers who were due to come into the Randwick store to ask them to bring cash to pay for their appointments as the Eftpos machine was not working

When the manager returned, he noticed a discrepancy between the amount entered into the company’s accounting program and the amount deposited into the company’s bank account.

Auditors were called in and Del Buso was put on the stand while the investigation began.
