CHARLESton, SC (WCSC) – Lawyers for the estate of Alex Murdaugh’s former family housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, say they have settled with Murdoff’s former law firm Peters, Murdoff, Parker, Altzeroth & Detrick (PMPED).
“The Satterfields and Murdoff law firm have settled their differences,” said Eric Bland, attorney for the Satterfield estate. Bland said he could not comment further.
Bland alleges that after Satterfield’s death, Alex Murdaugh placed Satterfield’s children with an attorney who would help him sue them to obtain an insurance settlement.
However, Bland and his partner Ronnie Richter say that Murdoff planned to raise more than $3 million for Satterfield’s children.
Bland and Richter have already reached a settlement with the firm and lawyer, Corey Fleming, which was originally set up to help Satterfield after the death of his mother.
Bland says he still has lawsuits pending against Alex Murdaugh and Palmetto State Bank.
“We’re looking at other guilty parties who didn’t perform their duties or followed the rules to prevent Alex from doing what he did. Several backstops were in place, and they failed,” Bland said.
Murdoff was denied bond last week after being accused of stealing insurance money for Saterfields.
According to Satterfield Condolence messageHe passed away at the age of 57 on February 26, 2018 at Trident Medical Center. Satterfield died of injuries in what was called a “trip and fall accident” in insurance settlements at the time.

SLED confirmed that Alex Murdaugh had discovered him after he was shot. Investigators confirmed that Murdoff had both been shot multiple times.

The family has close ties to the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, which serves Allendale, Beaufort, Coleton, Hampton and Jasper counties.
Members of the Murdoff family ran the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office for nearly 87 years, which is considered the longest consecutive term in American history.
The state law enforcement department is investigating both the double murder and the shooting incident over the weekend.
